Be a superhero: Donate to SIRS
Furniture, furnishings and household goods
SIRS relies on donations of furniture, furnishings and household goods to prepare an apartment for a family’s arrival. Thanks to the generosity of many, we have the used furniture and furnishings we need for the family we welcomed in Fall 2023.
Since we also assist with some new items (ex: car seats, when the children outgrow smaller seats, winter coats, etc.) gift cards continue to be helpful.
When we are ready to welcome an additional family, you would use the form below to list items you wish to donate. We can then reach out to you as a potential donor when the family is in need of specific household or personal items.
Storage space:
NEW: We need storage space! Since we placed most of our furniture with our recent family, we would like to clear out a small storage unit we are renting. Do you have a section of your (dry) basement that you can offer for our use? We would probably need this space from now through near the end of the year, when we would plan to welcome a new refugee family. If you can help, please fill out form below.
“80 years ago, this was my mother’s family. I’m so happy to be able to help in some way.”

Gift cards:
Gift cards to general merchandise retailers (ex: Amazon, Target), drug stores (ex: CVS), grocers (ex: ShopRite and Stop & Shop) and for purchases on Visa to help us buy goods for which we cannot accept used items (ex: perishable groceries, sundries, etc.).
Please mail your gift card here: FCC of Stamford, 655 Stillwater Rd., Stamford, CT 06902
Monetary donations:
SIRS also depends on monetary donations to buy some new goods (ex: pillows, mattresses, sundries, car seats) and to help the refugee families pay for some of their expenses the first year — and beyond, if appropriate. We often need to pay interpreters to help us communicate with people whose language is not in Google Translate or is not available in an audio translation, which is needed for illiterate families. That was the case for the eighteen months we were assisting the Pashto-speaking family. We don’t know what language the new refugee family will speak.
Your donation is tax-deductible. SIRS originated with and continues to be sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Stamford.
