Furniture, furnishings and household goods

SIRS relies on donations of furniture, furnishings and household goods to prepare an apartment for a family’s arrival.  Thanks to the generosity of many, we had the used furniture and furnishings we needed to furnish three apartments in the past twelve months.

We still want a full-size piano keyboard, which could be used to give piano lessons.

We also seek a plumber willing to donate services to install a toilet spray hose.

Please use the form below to let us know if you can donate either of these.

Storage space:

We periodically need storage space in a clean, temperature-controlled place. Since we don’t know when we will be able to welcome the next family, we are not requesting storage space at this time.

“80 years ago, this was my mother’s family. I’m so happy to be able to help in some way.”

Gift cards:

Since we also supply some new items (ex: car seats, pillows, winter coats, perishable groceries, etc.) gift cards continue to be helpful so that we can buy goods for which we cannot accept used items. The most helpful gift cards are those to general merchandise retailers (ex: Amazon, Target), drug stores (ex: CVS), grocers (ex: ShopRite and Stop & Shop) and for purchases on Visa.

Please mail your gift card here: FCC of Stamford, 655 Stillwater Rd., Stamford, CT 06902

Monetary donations:

SIRS also depends on monetary donations to buy some new goods (ex: pillows, mattresses, sundries, car seats) and to help the refugee families pay for some of their expenses the first year — and beyond, if appropriate. SIRS is currently contributing to the rent for three rental apartments in Stamford.

Your donation is tax-deductible.  SIRS originated with and continues to be sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Stamford.

(Note: In the past we have needed to pay interpreters to help us communicate with people whose language is not in Google Translate or is not available in an audio translation. That was the case for eighteen months with one family, but we can help the current families with the occasional help from a volunteer interpreter.)

You may make your donation via check or Venmo.

To donate by check:

  • Make check out to: First Congregational Church of Stamford
  • Note “SIRS” in the check’s memo section
  • Mail check to: FCC of Stamford, 655 Stillwater Rd., Stamford, CT 06902

To donate using Venmo:  “Venmo” your payment @fccstamford.  Note “SIRS – [your name]” on the transaction.
